After Rising Pune Supergiants’ unimpressive season so far, and their dependable batsman Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2016.
It’s now time for another reliable batsman and player to make the exit of the team owing to injury. Faf du Plessis who has been an instrumental player for the RPSG in the absence of Kevin Pietersen, is no out of the league due to broken finger.

Du Plessis tweeted the bad news, confirming his season was over after sustaining a broken finger as he has been ruled out of action for 6 weeks due to a broken finger, the player himself confirmed today (April 28) on Twitter by posting. In 6 matches so far this season, Du Plessis scored 206 runs with 2 half centuries. His highest score was 69.
“And so my IPL tournament, unfortunately, comes to and end.Broken finger and out for 6 weeks.Thanx India and @RPSupergiants it’s been fun.
,” Du Plessis wrote on his Twitter page on Thursday evening.

The right-handed opener is the second player Pune are losing due to an injury after losing former England captain Kevin Pietersen due to a calf injury as he posted by saying “Over & out, India! Injuries are all part of the job! Horrible tear in my calf! Sad to be leaving a really great bunch of boys but looking forward to being back with my family! London bound for a summer off! Vacation till November! Bye for now! Lots of love, KP xxx,” Pietersen had written on his Instagram page after the injury.
Earlier Pietersen, who had injured his right calf against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday, announced he would not take further part in the tournament via his Instagram account. Pietersen had come out to bat at No. 3 in the second over against Royal Challengers and faced only one ball before he retired hurt and had to be carried off the field. He attempted a single but hurt his calf muscle after turning to get back into his crease.
In this season, Pietersen had scored 73 runs from four innings at an average of 36.50 and strike rate of 119.67. Supergiants are currently reeling at the bottom of the points table, would be very heartbroken by this latest development.

Who will replace Faf du Plessis in the upcoming games will be a matter of interest now.
However, Australia batsman Usman Khawaja could replace one of Pietersen or Du Plessis after Pune coach Stephen Fleming said his side was looking at the elegant left-hander.
“He (Khawaja) is a guy we are surely looking at,” Fleming said after the two-wicket loss to Kolkata on Sunday.
“There is a shortlist we are working through so looking at availability and Visas and the likes, but he is certainly a guy we are interested in.”
Still the replacement is yet to be confirmed by the sources and the team management who might be in a state of serious concern now owing to two back to back injuries of the major players.
